La canzone dei Beatles “Let it be” è un canto alla Vergine Maria? Sì, afferma Luis Antequera nel suo blog En cuerpo y Alma, ospitato sul portale Religión en Libertad.
Antequera evidenzia che nella canzone, composta da Paul McCartney, c'è “un personaggio che l'autore chiama Mother Mary, Madre Maria”.
E la domanda fondamentale che dà ragion d'essere a tutta la canzone è: “Chi è questa Mother Mary, Madre Maria, alla quale McCartney fa riferimento in due occasioni nel testo?”.
Finora la spiegazione accolta quasi all'unanimità è stata quella che “lo stesso McCartney ha offerto in non poche occasioni: si tratta di sua madre, che ha perso quando aveva 14 anni, un anno prima di entrare nel gruppo The Quarrrymen, fondato da John Lennon”.
Antequera sostiene tuttavia che “quella Madre Maria non è una madre qualsiasi, ma la Vergine Maria”.
McCartney – cattolico di nascita –, ha sempre autorizzato a “interpretare la canzone come meglio credesse” chi gli chiedeva se la protagonista del brano fosse la Vergine Maria.
San Luca
Luis Antequera sottolinea che “le parole che danno il titolo alla canzone e fanno parte del ritornello, let it be, sono esattamente quelle che San Luca pone in inglese sulla bocca di Maria quando questa si offre alla volontà di Dio espressa dall'arcangelo Gabriele: 'let it be in me according to your word', 'Avvenga di me quello che hai detto'” (Lc 1, 38).
Finché lo stesso Paul McCartney non lo chiarirà, rimarrà il dubbio che sia la Vergine Maria la protagonista di questa bella canzone, che è arrivata al vertice delle classifiche negli Stati Uniti e in Australia, Norvegia, Svizzera e molti altri Paesi ed è considerata la 20ma delle “Cinquecento canzoni più belle di tutti i tempi” secondo la rivista musicale Rolling Stone.
